"Gear better than yours has less crit" but Crit gems recommended?

Hi everyone,

I’m a little confused by what AMR is trying to tell me here. As a Prot paladin, crit is not generally thought of as our strongest stat so I was totally on board with the sidebar recommendation that gear better than mine generally has less crit. But then, every single gem and enchant being recommended to me is crit. So now I’m not sure which direction to trust.

Any hints as to what is going on here?

Generated pawn weights are incompatible with suggested gear in Best in Bag feature

So, stat weights are very “coarse”. They provide a linear approximation to a non-linear solution. If you look at the potentially good stat distributions for any spec, you will see that there are very good stat distributions all over the place, due to the complex interaction between gear. Best in Bags is looking at only the gear you have available and then finding the best solution. Maybe 75% of good solutions have high haste… but you just don’t have a lot of haste gear. Thanks for the reply, but this doesn’t feel like a stat weights issue (or complaint) to me. As an end user, it feels like the tool is giving me contradictory information: 1) Gear better than yours has less crit (so go pursue that gear), 2) But in the meantime, you should totally gem/enchant/etc for Crit

Taken as a whole, this guidance is hard to reason about. Should I be trying to decrease my crit in this setup or not?

In any event, maybe I’m thinking about this too simplistically — I’d just like to understand why the tool would provide guidance like that at the same time.

The first thing that comes to mind here is that better gear has less crit, but maybe they are socketable so crit gems would come in handy, or crit enchants is the way to go for extra crit. So your best gear has better stats but you have the option to add some crit via gems/enchants.

Thanks – yeah looks like you had different talents selected, now I see the same thing. It probably only happens with Seraphim builds. I have a couple tweaks that should make it not do that as often, but the short version of why it is doing that: using the Mythic+ simulation and your talents and gear, replacing some of your mastery with critical strike simulates to just about the same value.
