Tank gear optimizer is not working

Hello, i used your tank gear optimizer for heroic strategy by doing BiB(Best in bags) and it told me to use more of my dps items, since the risk of me dying was lower then ur calculation thereby it recommended me to weigh dps stats more heavily.

Well, i went pure toughness instead, and was going through normal ToS yesterday, and several times i was under 10% hp throughout some boss fights.
I am well aware of the fact, that i don’t play as optimally as a robot, who has learned it and doesn’t have to rely on human memory and skill.

But it just strikes me as odd, that it would favor dps over toughness in a heroic setting, if i almost die on normal.
Im a guardian druid btw, with ilvl 920.

ilvl 920 should be more than high enough to gear largely for DPS in a heroic raid setting. You might want to be a bit more conservative on Kil’jaeden or Fallen Avatar (depending on how good your team is at executing).

When I run best-in-bags for your character, choose the raid boss (heroic) strategy and set the blender option to All Toughness, it does not recommend many gear changes – swaps out some crit to get a mix of haste/mastery/vers instead, and pick up some avoidance. Overall the changes are very small (come out to only a 0.13% estimated change, which means virtually equivalent to your character’s current setup).

If I change to Conservative blender option, the changes are also not that big – main thing it is doing is dropping stamina trinkets for trinkets with more agility. This is generally a good DPS/toughness trade-off. It also drops your 4pc set bonus in favor of higher stats, which should also not be a major change in toughness.

If I go all the way to aggressive, the main difference is again dropping your set bonuses to get more stats, and it favors a crit/haste hybrid more highly. That all makes sense because Aggressive is very DPS-oriented.

So looks to me like everything is working quite well here – your gear is more than good enough to breeze through Normal difficulty with a pure DPS-oriented gear set. For Heroic, I would recommend the Conservative gear set, or the Full Toughness gear set on fights you are getting hurt more.

That said – how you play and how your healers play can greatly change this. You might need to play far more defensively if your healers are less experienced, or if you are new to the fights.

But that said… the “all toughness” build recommendation… you don’t really have any other gear that would make you significantly tougher than that.
