AskMrRobot addon ver. 58 is not working

Could you send me your saved variables for AskMrRobot? There are instructions in one of my previous posts. That would help a lot with narrowing down the problem. It seems like maybe old saved variables got loaded from the previous version of the addon…

I posted version 59 of the addon, I think that should fix the issue that @dogshep posted, which is the same as @deviant1984.

Give it a try and let me know if you are still having a problem – it might take a few minutes for it to show up on Twitch. You can always get the latest directly from https://www.askmrrobot.com/wow/addon

I downloaded the latest version from Curse Forge and my Export text box is blank. I deleted and installed version 59 of the addon from https://www.askmrrobot.com/wow/addon and I have the same issue.

I noticed when installing AskMrRobot that my RecountMiniMapButton disappeared but it displayed after a reload so I am not sure if relevant to the issue.

I just worked through this same error on the beta version of WoW with someone, it turns out errors were being hidden for them. The only way the export box would be blank is if you encounter a lua error, so it must be getting eaten/hidden by something.

If someone would like to help me out, you can install these two addons that I find very helpful for catching lua errors in addons:

https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/bug-grabber
https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/bugsack

Then try using the AskMrRobot addon again, it should capture the error you are experiencing. I should be able to fix it quickly once I have the error report.

WOW Europe is now under maintenance

Please link a free program to view .lua files

You are getting that error because you haven’t updated to 8.0.1 version of WoW yet. Once you do that, the error will go away.

It is Version 7.3.5.26972 is all that seems to be available in Europe for now although when I click on Patch Notes it mentions Patch 8.0.1 dated 07/17/2018 (it is now 07/18/2018 in Europe).

As the servers have just closed for maintenance, I suppose the new version will be available for download when the servers are open.

this may or not help, but i grabbed verson 58 to try to do some testing.

i ran into this error while opening AMR with my bank open and going to the gear tab.

Could you get version 59 and let me know if that fixes this particular error?

I am using version 59 and get a lua error immediately opening AMR. The export window shows up blank and switching to the gear tab also produces an error.

Running other addons (ElvUI, Details!, DBM…) - would that interfere with AMR?

It would appear that yes other addons can interfere. I was having this error, but I disabled all other addons except AMR and then re-imported and the gear list showed up. Now the task of figuring out what addon isn’t playing nice.
EDIT:

apparently it still errors w.o any addons

Hopefully that helps some.

Also a note, I noticed that when I reload my ui, AMR acts as if this is my first use of it. (ie; the Getting started is up despite this is not my first time using it.) and also it has cleared anything imported from prior so basically it’s resetting itself back to ‘clean slate’ in a manner of speaking upon each reload.

OK so you are getting the error when you import from the website – you aren’t getting the error that the “export” box is blank. Do you get the error immediately after importing? Could you post the string of text that you are trying to import into the addon?

yeah the export box in game works for me it seems (I’m using 59 tho which likely makes a difference) and this is what I’m trying to import into the addon in game, it errors immediately upon import:

Thanks – I’ll check it out, see if I can figure it out and post an update in the morning. And also fix that issue with the saved data getting reset each time you reload the UI.

Thanks! I don’t know what I’d do w/o you guys (besides likely lose my mind and second guess my gear choices 10x more lol)
