Recently geared geared this toon via Sirens Isles and Timewalking. Forgot about sets, so i came online to see what pieces were best to upgrade. It would seem that my set bonuses are not good enough of an upgrade.
After looking at the list again, It would seem that the items it is listing are not the Siren Isles items. maybe that’s the problem?

I would need a little more context on what you are doing – are you looking at the Upgrade Finder? Which search are you using?
When I load your first character, go to the Upgrade Finder, choose Quick Rank and do a search, I see the set items as the highest rank items that you could obtain.
You do not own any set items yet, so e.g. none would appear in the Valorstones/Crests search, which shows the value of upgrading gear that you already own by using those currencies.
If you are using Best in Slot, note that you have explicitly filtered out set items – you should set the Tier Set & Catalyst level to something other than None.
Also note that the 4pc bonus is not that great for defense – you may need to move the strategy slider a bit closer to damage/offense for it to be chosen in some cases.
I’m looking in the upgrade finder, under catalyst. None of the items it suggests are items that im wearing. And even if they weren’t an upgrade, wont it show it red as a downgrade?
Even with the second snapshot I shared (Elemental Shaman), its not listing any item I’m wearing. And i can’t believe that not having a set bonus would be better.
I see – yeah as far as I can tell, there is no way to determine exactly which items are allowed to be converted in the catalyst. We have to maintain that manually. It looks like we didn’t add drop locations for the siren isle gear (and I didn’t check in-game… can they be converted?), so they aren’t showing up in that list.
Can timewalking items be converted in the catalyst? I thought they couldn’t, but I have not checked in a while.
Yes, all the Earthen Scallywag items can be catalyzed.
For timewalking it appears it NOT possible. At least the chest and feet that are equipped on the one toon i checked.
Got it – so we have 11.1 coming in just over a week… we’re pretty buried in that. I don’t know if we’ll be able to do a website update between now and then to add the siren isles gear as a catalyst source (and then after that update it won’t be relevant for season 2).
In the meantime, you could look at the quick ranking of the set items to see which slots would be best for you, and then look at the ranking of the items you own (just click on a slot in Best in Bags to see the rough ranking of each item that you own in that slot), and convert the highest item level, lowest ranking item to that set item.
We apologize for having to use a workaround for this coming week – usually we fix issues within 24 hours if possible – but there are only two of us so we get a bit bogged down around these major patches. There are some really big changes in 11.1 (e.g. some specs like Marksmanship Hunters were significantly redesigned), so we’re hard at work getting that ready to go for the 25th.

After realizing items are highlighted in the character frame, bags and that there’s a flyout menu, I knew there HAD to be a way.

Thanks – yeah that could be an interesting way to do it – export it with the character’s data.
We generally try to figure this stuff out by extracting it from the game client, and as far as I can tell there is no table or flag anywhere that indicates it can be converted, so maybe going the approach of just exporting it with each character would be a better tactic.
