Would it be possible for Best in Bags to make its decisions with the amount of crests we have to upgrade the gear in order to use them optimally and efficiently instead of just saying “this is your best if you had infinite of these types of crest or lower”, like “put 40 in this piece and 20 in this other piece for the best dps increase”
The Upgrade Finder can tell you which items are best to upgrade right now. My suggestion is to use that, do your upgrades, then use BiB with the upgrades turned off.
We have experimented with something like you suggested - but it’s one of those things that very quickly becomes both extremely difficult and somewhat arbitrary/ambiguous.
We are continuing to work on some more ideas and features for how to help people decide on an upgrade path, but it’s still too early to share it.
The current Crest Upgrade Finder search can pretty much do what you want:
-
Make sure to fill in the optional “cost efficiency settings” section at the bottom of the options for the Crest search. For example if you want to rank the efficiency of upgrades that cost Heroic crests you will need to say that you are doing at least one activity that rewards Heroic crests.
-
Press “Find Upgrades” to see the results, then at the top, change the ranking method to “Most Efficient”.
-
Do the highest-ranking upgrade that you can afford with crests. If you can’t afford it, go down the list to the next one that you can.
The optimization that you mention of “put 40 in this piece and 20 in this other piece” always collapses to the case above: upgrade the most efficient item as far as you can, then do the 2nd most efficient as far as you can, etc.
The reason that we don’t explicitly do the type of optimization that you describe is that while you don’t want to think of crests as an infinite resource, you also don’t want to think of them as limited to exactly what you have right now – you can always get more next week. Couple that with the fact that your best use of crests will always be to upgrade the most efficient item all the way to max before going to the next most efficient, a simple ranked list by efficiency becomes all the information that you need to do this optimally.
