Do Best in Bags consider items in the warband bank?

As title states, do BiB consider items inside the warband bank?
And if not is it on the roadmap

It does not right now ā€“ it is on my short list to make the addon scan your warband bank too.

An update on this: weā€™ll have warband bank scanning in the next version of the addon (v144), which we plan to release this coming Tuesday (if not sooner).

v144 of the addon was just published (and should be on curseforge momentarily). It should be reading your warband bank tabs now.

About this last update and scanning warband bank, I think something isnā€™t working right.

Maybe put it in the upgrade section (or with an option), so that if someone wants to search for it, they can. Now itā€™s just broken and takes ages with multiple warband bank views before i can switch gear. and if you play 3 specs on same class it can take even longer (tank, heal, dps).
And if you are out in the open, not near a bank and your CD is down, you are out of luck.

I agree. It needs to be an option. Itā€™s not even accounting for player level at this point trying to get me to use stuff i canā€™t equip. Yes, I know itā€™s optimized for 80 but you gotta get there first. ;o I had to take all my leather gear and stick it in an altā€™s bank that wears plate and vice versa. Iā€™d rather just not have it look at warband bank right now.

I also have lots of lvl 80 warband bound stuff in my warband bank, and now Iā€™m recommended to use that on every alt while leveling up. Unfortunately not very usefull this way. :frowning:

We could add an option to exclude items that are warband bound from Best in Bags results. That would probably cover most peopleā€™s cases.

@playboli I donā€™t quite understand your postā€¦ what specifically is ā€œbrokenā€ and ā€œtaking agesā€?

@fireopal We always read the required level on an item and check it against your player level. If you could post a snapshot ID of the character in question (press the ā€œhelpā€ link next to the big Best in Bags section header and follow the instructions), and tell me which specific item it is suggesting that your character canā€™t actually equip (let me know name or ID of item, and what the required player level is on the item as you see it in-game), and I can try to figure out why the required level is not matching when we import it.

Thereā€™s my 72 hunter for example. There are six 560+ items which require level 80, e.g. legs ā€œAeveryā€™s Spare Chausses of the Harmoniousā€ (229082)

The 3 greens. Underscoutā€™s Jerkin of the Peerless - requires level 78, Underscoutā€™s Gloves of the Feverflare - requires level 80, Underscoutā€™s Cord of the Quickblade - requires level 77. Also, itā€™s trying to switch to the duplicate items in the Bank that are the same ilevel as the gear already equipped : Dalaran Defenderā€™s Shoulderblades ilevel 480, Dalaran Defenderā€™s Pants ilevel 480, Ring of Returning Memories ilevel 480, Faded Ebony Scale ilevel 480. So when trying to run the ā€˜equip for that specā€™ like the druid has 4, it swaps and swaps and swaps and does nothing. i think thatā€™s the same thing happening with playboli. itā€™s like it loops. keeps saying to open bank, even tho itā€™s open. i just had to remove it all from the warband bank so i could get a more accurate optimize. hope that helps! i love this app and itā€™s my go to since i really hate having to try to figure out the best gear myself >< heh. OH, my character is 73, this has been happening since 70 and the update tho. the more immediate fix would be to have the option to not use, then we could at least use the warband bank

Iā€™m having a similar issue on my demon hunter, also with the Underscoutā€™s items in my warband bank. If more examples are needed, I can add additional info.

  • there is the problem that it suggest lvl 80 items (or just items that canā€™t be used for the lvl you are now, for example lvl 74 item when you are 72) for low lvl alts. so you have to exclude them or not put them in warband bank (like others suggested), those can also be boe items not only warbound until equipped.
  • also when you actually find a warbound until equipped item that does match your level, you have to take it out of warband bank, use it (cause addon canā€™t take items out of warband bank, and canā€™t use the items when you put them in the bag, cause not bound yet to that character); But if you didnā€™t scan again, the item changed and addon is still looking for that same warband until equipped item.
  • Also say, i scan on my monk (with warband bank open), i take the item out of the bank, now i go to my druid, havenā€™t scanned with warband bank open. it still thinks that same item is there, and suggest that one aswell. so basically it would be better to have it as an option for when you are near a bank (or CD isnā€™t used) and are lvl 80 (or you could have an option for when you arenā€™t lvl 80 to not use it, is also an option).
  • That all is doable if you only play one spec / one alt, and you are near the bank. But i play like all classes (and a lot of the specs) and sometimes change in the open world, away from banks (and maybe my CD is used for my warband bank). Well then you can forget to change fast.
  • dunno if that makes sense? iā€™m not native English speaker, sorry if I made some mistakes.

Also, itā€™s allowing Warband bank stuff to be discarded even with the box checked.

So Iā€™m looking at the case that @fireopal provided:

Required levels

The required item level data is really weird on a bunch of these items, Iā€™m trying to get it to read correctly.

You said that your Underscoutā€™s Jerkin of the Peerless requires level 78ā€¦ the data is a bit weird, but I think I can get that one to match up. In short: the game is providing no required level data for that item, but seems to be implicitly setting it to your player level when the item dropped. I can do thatā€¦ and hope it doesnā€™t mess anything else up.

For e.g. the Underscoutā€™s Gloves of the Feverflare, the game data Iā€™m getting seems to indicate a required level of 71ā€¦ or at max, 77ā€¦ not quite sure how they are getting a required level of 80 from the provided dataā€¦ something must be overriding that information. Iā€™m wondering if perhaps an item can be upgraded it overrides any other provided required level data and implicitly sets it to max player levelā€¦ I can try that and see how it goes, hopefully it doesnā€™t cause problems with other items.

(I think you see a theme hereā€¦ Blizzard does not like to be straightforward with their item data, a lot of things are implied and overridden by other things. Why they donā€™t just have one clear way to say ā€œthis is the required player level on this itemā€ is beyond meā€¦)

Worst in bags

Many of these warband-bound itemsā€¦ Iā€™m not quite sure how to distinguish them from normal bind-on-equip items. For example, fireopalā€™s example of the Underscoutā€™s Jerkin. In the game data this is a Bind on Pickup item. But then the game attaches a bonus ID that overrides this and makes it Bind on Equip. Do these items appear as Bind on Equip in-game or Bind to Warband until equipped? Itā€™s unclear to me what would indicate it is warband bound instead of a normal BoE itemā€¦ thus Worst in Bags does not see it as a warband item.

We could maybe just avoid the problem by adding an option to ignore BoE items tooā€¦ might be good enough?

Swapping identical items

There appears to be a bug where we are recommending to change from one item to an identical version of the same item. Weā€™ll fix that in the next update.

I think that the addon is having a problem because we canā€™t automatically equip an item that is not bound to you. The game puts up a warning message and requires that you explicitly confirm binding the item to yourself ā€“ we donā€™t bypass that with our addon, and in theory it should print a message to the chat window in such cases.

Other issues

This leads into the points that @playboli makes in his post:

  • Yes, if you remove an item from your warband bank on character X, if you switch over to character Y, you will need to open your bank so that we can scan it again and get the latest state for character Y.
  • And yes, I think the addon might not mark some of these items as equipped until you export/import to the website again, because the act of equipping the warband-bound item actually changes the bonus IDsā€¦ so it appears to be a different item. This is different behavior than most items.

As mentioned above, our next updated (probably later tonight) will have an option to ignore warband items from Best in Bags. That should be fine in the short term. In the long termā€¦ maybe weā€™ll try to create some kind of shared warband inventory across charactersā€¦ but that would be quite a bit of work so it probably wonā€™t happen for a while.

We just published an update that should improve on this a bit.

You will need to get v145 or higher of the addon to see most of the improvements. We had to export some extra information to more reliably determine if an item is warbound. It should also pick up the required item level more reliably ā€“ youā€™ll have to go in-game, open your bank at least once, and export to the website again for the item data to update.

There is a new option under the settings for Best in Bags to ā€œExclude Warband/BoE Itemsā€. It will work on any Bind on Equip item, not just ā€œWarbound until equippedā€ items. We could separate them if people want, but weā€™ll try it like this for now and see how it goes.

Note that our tooltip might show an item as BoE (e.g. a crafted item), but if you have already equipped it, weā€™ll know that it is soulbound and always include it in optimizations. You need v145 or higher of the addon for this to work properly.

We did this pretty quickly to help people out in the short term ā€“ if you find something about the current setup really annoying to use, please let us know and describe your situation. Weā€™ll take any feedback and consider ways to improve it in future updates.
