Mr Robot recommeding nonsensical azerite powers

Yesterday, Mr Robot was recommending discipline azerite powers (penance something or other) for my holy priest who has no discipline configuration.

Today he’s recommending feral azerite powers for my guardian on a piece of gear that isn’t being used or even suggested for my feral configuration.

What gives?

The first thing I noticed is that neither of your Agility spec’s aren’t set as more important than Resto., if they are, they need to be above Resto.
Second; do any of the trait recommendations offer benefit to Agility, as that would be beneficial to Guardian and Feral, afaik. To that end, are any of the trait recommendations locked to your Feral setup on items that are shared between the two Agility spec.'s…?

That said, there have been instances where Traits have been found to be beneficial across spec.'s that require a spec. swap to ‘activate’… Paladin springs to mind, that require a non-Ret. to switch TO Ret., to get a trait selected that proved beneficial.

My specs are listed in the intended order. I heal more than I tank and tank more than I dps.

The trait being recommended (Gushing Lacerations) buffs Rip which is not available to Guardians with Resto affinity, which I am.

The recommendation on my priest…

It’s recommending Weal and Woe - Healing an ally with Penance increases the damage of your next Smite by 1163. Damaging an enemy with Penance increases the absorption of your next Power Word: Shield by 4362.

Now I’m no expert… but I don’t think Holy priests have Penance.

If you could post the “snapshot” ID for each of your characters, we can take a closer look. To get a snapshot, click on the green “Help” link to the right of the big Best in Bags section header, then click the Create Support Post button. Copy the generated 32-digit ID here, and we can use that to exactly duplicate your setups and settings.

With that we should be able to figure out exactly what is going on.

This will probably help. On my priest, if I equip the piece in question (Sandspinner Headdress) and re-run best in bags, the azerite trait recommendations change to holy traits… even after I switch back to my old head armor.

In both cases the optimizer is behaving correctly. What is causing the results that you see is the Azerite Threshold setting. In both cases, there is only one Azerite trait that would change, and neither is all that impactful – it falls below your threshold, so the optimizer says you can leave the item as-is and save some gold.

If you want it to change the powers no matter what, set the Azerite Threshold to disabled.

There is no “right” setting for the Azerite Threshold – it is a convenience setting. Many players prefer not to make azerite, gem and enchant changes that are potentially costly but result in very small gains. Other players will spend any amount of gold to optimize each spec. Modify those settings to whatever works for you.
