Multi Spec Gem Issue?

So frost is my off spec.. I did arcane first and have it set 1st on the spec priority and in the suggestions it tells me to switch my helm gem with a unique purple gem. 865bdbc0d4db47dc82787f773212933d

When i then go to optimize my second spec, frost spec.. i set the gem setting to only use uncommon gems. It is telling me to use the same helm with the same gem, almost as if it thinks that helmet already has that gem equipped, as if its assuming I followed the advice of my last main spec optimization. 97e449c3c5994fbaa42b4967b01db265

Same for my boot slot.

So it almost seems like its not reading what is actually currently equipped on my gear, but what my last optimization was. If that makes sense.

This is working how it is designed to work: each of your Best in Bags setups in the list on the left is done in order.

It starts with your Arcane setup and optimizes – you have allowed it to use unique epic gems, so it picks a couple in your head and feet slot.

Then it goes on to your Frost setup. You have limited it to only uncommon gems which is fine. But if the helmet with the gems picked for your Arcane setup is better than any other helmet with different gems, it can use it as-is. In other words those gems are now “locked in” to that helmet when optimizing any setup below your Arcane setup.

The goal is that you can optimize and maintain multiple sets of gear simultaneously without having to constantly swap gems and enchants whenever you change specs in-game. Your higher priority setups get first pick, then as you down the list you either “make do” with the gems/enchants picked for your higher setups, or choose a different item in your inventory and put different gems/enchants on it. The optimizer will figure out which is better.

Yeah, I understand how it works. Whichever spec is higher on the left gets the higher priority. So the second spec wont tell you to use something from your first spec if it wants you to change something on that item. But the point im bringing up, is that the changes they are recommending for the second spec are based on the assumption I followed the 1st spec’s recommendations.

So for example, my arcane spec tells me to put a unique gem in my head slot that is good for arcane spec. I didnt agree with that gem choice and decided to not do that. So when i then go to optimize my frost spec… and not use unqiue gems it tells me to use the same helmet and recommends that same gem, assuming its the gem already on my head. But i did not actually put that gem on my head in game.. so now it is recommending a gem that is not neccessarily the best for frost.

I feel like the idea in general is good. Dont intefer with any of your gear from the higher priority spec.. but i think it should make decisions based on the actual status of your in game items, not the assumption you listened to the 1st spec to a tee.

Also is there anyway to select Drums as a raid buff?

I see – yeah it will always assume that you actually do the optimization. If you want to ignore/override a gem suggestion, you could manually lock in the gems that you actually chose instead. Then the optimizer will work around that, and subsequent setups will obey your locks from higher priority setups.

Okay thanks. Is there anyway to select drums as a buff? Also for warrior - improved grace of air and strength of air totem.. is that referring to the enhanced totem talent or some t4 or other gears set bonus? Same with improved battle shout

The improved versions of buffs refer to the talents that improve them.

There are so many consumables in TBC it’s hard to keep track of them all… I don’t think we have drums in the list.
