I’m noticing some big differences between bis lists online and what AMR recommends. That’s fine with me this expansion because gearing is so varied now. My question is just regarding gem choices. AMR recommends stacking the same gem throughout, while the couple bis lists I’ve seen have Blasphemite and all different gems to benefit the Blasphemite. I’ve been reading that secondary stats are stronger than main stats currently so I’m curious about the discrepancy.
I see that your case is for fury warrior – I’m actually working on some updates to fury warrior that I hope to have tested and completed sometime in the next day or two. It will probably change the balance of stats that it prefers by a little bit.
That said… I see most people completely avoiding crit and stacking a lot of haste. After this update I think the optimizer will probably like getting a little haste whereas it is mostly avoiding it right now. But now matter how I run it… crit comes out to being a pretty good stat for fury in a lot of builds. I’m not sure why everyone is avoiding it so aggressively.
As for the gems… the blasphemite is actually a big disappointment for me. Being the kind of person who likes messing around with gear and optimization… the gain from using the blasphemite is ridiculously small, to the point that it is often worth ignoring and just using your best stat gems instead. It’s a big letdown. Sometimes the optimizer will say it is worth going for it, others don’t quite get over that threshold. In either case… it’s so small that it’s almost indistinguishable in practice. Really disappointing design by Blizzard.
In regards to haste, personally, I just know that I don’t like when fury feels slow and beginning of expansions our haste is always minimal. A friend of mine specifically holds haste trinkets for the same reason. My only guess about the aversion to crit would just be that Archimtiros ranked it lowest priority. That they ranked it lowest is doubly confusing now that I see the Blasphemite bonus is a buff to main stat and “crit effect.”
We just posted an update that should give much better results for Fury.
In particular you should see higher values for haste now. Crit is still going to be higher than you see most people recommending… but I’ve gone over it many times now and the results make sense to me.
There are particular talents that will move the stat balance around a bit. A couple examples:
If you choose Frenzied Enrage, it will typically increase the value of haste. This is because haste buffs like this multiply with your haste from gear, thus improving it point-for-point. (At some point of course you’ll have “enough” haste and its value will start to drop down again.)
On the other hand if you pick Powerful Enrage, it will reduce the value of Mastery relative to the other stats a little. That may seem counterintuitive… but that +15% damage while enraged is “additive” with your mastery – your mastery does not get multiplied by it. But… all of your other stats essentially get multiplied by the Powerful Enrage bonus. So it doesn’t make Mastery worse… it just makes every other stat get a little better.
Critical strike I think has usually ranked lower for Fury because you get a lot of sources of crit from talents and abilities: Recklessness, Ashen Juggernaut, and Bloodcraze being the most notable. Similar to the idea behind Powerful Enrage, these flat crit bonuses multiply with your other stats but not your crit from gear, thus making crit lose some value point-for-point in comparison.
This is offset by a few effects that give extra scaling with crit though: any talent that gives crit damage, and Cold Steel Hot Blood. The Slayer tree has two decent crit damage bonuses that help it keep up as a stat compared to the others. (You will notice that in general Slayer builds prefer a little more crit than Mountain Thane builds because the Mountain Thane tree lacks talents that give boosts to crit.)
Anyway – try it out and see what you think. We also tweaked the value of a few popular trinkets based on what we’re seeing in logs.
