TBC PTR is out - any chance of reviving the TBC version of the optimizer?

With TBC on the horizon I was wanting to start exploring items I can get now that’ll last through early phases in TBC, but i notice the TBC optimizer isn’t available anymore. Is it planned to revive it soon?

We will bring it back assuming that the version of TBC that goes live is a largely unmodified version of TBC, like they did with Classic Anniversary.

Yep the loot is the same, prepatch goes live on tuesday and that means a bunch of the healing-only gear gets some SP tacked on, dunno if it’s possible to get that TBC version of the site back up so I can start looking at things?

We are under a bit of a time crunch… this Midnight pre-patch is coming a couple weeks sooner than expected. Once we get that out and working (Jan 20), then I can turn to getting the TBC site squared away before switching back to finishing stuff up for the full Midnight release early March.

Will be cool if you guys can maybe have a TBC test site so we can see if it works the same version it was last time TBC was. Im happy toi test I love Beta test stuff and test things ouit. Im also gladly donate to get access np.

It should work exactly the same. I think yellow mainly needs to deal with phasing and loot data - they always seem to change a little something with each release. The scoring functions are still there, unchanged from when it was up previously.

We also need to look at our server structure a little and update it, since the amount of data and compute we need is going up with this iteration of the retail site.

awesome. Can’t wait. Been looking forward to this since the announced the re release. Will we need to pay again or are we still covered if we payed for the last tbc version.

If you previously paid for the TBC version you will not need to pay again.

when will it be available?

I don’t mind paying, i didn’t pay for a previous tbc version but have access to the classic one, so I assume tbc one is an additional package or something? Hoping you can get to this soon XD I can’t run the optimizer anymore cuz all the items have changed in the prepatch :< and I don’t think the AMR addon was working either.

I think I mentioned in another thread:

First we need to get the Midnight pre-patch live on Jan 20 (this coming Tuesday). Once that is good to go, then I can get the TBC site back up, probably next week sometime assuming nothing major goes wrong with the Midnight pre-patch.

Each classic version (Classic Era, TBC, WotLK) has a separate one-time $10 fee associated with it to fund development and maintenance of those extra versions.

you will love the tbc version. it is worth every penny. They should be charging way more honestly. I wish they would just so it would be viable to have done cata and mop. But anyway, with the gem slots in tbc, this tool is so useful.

I’m noticing the TBC site is live - however when I make a generic character (since my 60 can’t use best in slot?), and select phase 1, and select only “dungeons”, it’s showing me BiS from black temple / hyjal etc, so the phase dropdown doesn’t seem to be being respected. I think something similar had happened on the classic site that you fixed, not sure if it’s the same bug but thought maybe you could look into it ^.^ It seems to think my “current gear” is all epic gear from late patches, so maybe it’s just seeing I already have these items “equipped” so isn’t making any changes. I feel like the base templates should just have nothing equipped.

The issue is that the Best in Slot will always include the gear equipped on the character you have loaded. These are generic characters created at the end of TBC, so it will be a bit difficult to do low-level Best in Slot using them.

In the meantime you could just edit your character’s level to 70 to run Best in Slot: click the “hamburger” menu icon to the left of your character name/icon at the top-left of our website, and it opens a window to edit your character properties.

Note that whenever you import from the addon it will reset to your current level though, and you’d probably want that to always be your current level when running Best in Bags or the Upgrade Finder.

Ok even after doing that there’s still a few issues. Snapshot: 46ad53855bc040748ed7b2be295ace1e

  1. If I want to have it ignore certain items, when I click any given item there’s nothing in the list except hallow’s end items:

And the “Release Phase” filter only has Phase 5 (Sunwell) as an option.

  1. Also, why would the base character templates have phase 4 gear equipped? Even if someone were in phase 5, and wanted to search for pre-bis to plan things out, they would get no results using the character template? Is there a reason those template characters have gear on at all? Seems better to just un-equip them and let the dungeon/raid filters determine what they will have equipped.
  2. There’s no option to include classic items in the Best in Slot results.
    1. I selected “PVP Filter - None”, but it is still equipping the Pendant of Dominance, a clearly pvp item. This should be Choker of the Firelord from MC?
    2. I would also expect it to suggest Ring of the Fallen God and Band of the Inevitable as prebis if not phase 1 bis, but even when clicking the item and selecting Phase 5 so it shows all items, classic rings are not in the list so it’s not even considering them.
    3. There’s not a ton of non-heroic dungeon trinkets as seen in this snapshot, so it’s giving a healing trinket suggestion. This should be The Restrained Essence of Sapphiron, instead of Essence of the Martyr, I would think?

I don’t know how hard it would be to add “Classic” or “Vanilla” as one of the filters in the setup. It could be similar to the Dungeons one and just list the 6 raids or something, but I would appreciate it if this were an option…There definitely are a handful of classic items that have staying power for some classes.

I’ll fix the phase filter on the per-slot item list filters.

The generic characters are mainly for testing – they rarely get used by anyone except us. I could try to dig up the code that created them and generate some new ones… but it’s a low priority right now.

The TBC site has very few classic/vanilla items indexed, and thus won’t pick them when doing Best in Slot. We may have added exceptions for specific ones that hung around (I can’t remember exactly, been a while!), but for the most part it is focused on max level content.

My point is that some of the classic items are bis according to certain lists all through phase 1.

Wowhead for instance lists both classic rings as bis until phase 2: Burning Crusade Classic Shadow Priest DPS Best in Slot (BiS) Phase 1 Gear Guide - Wowhead (shadow priest gearing is super scuffed lol)

Anyway no big deal really, the only reason I use the generated characters is if I want to look at bis for other classes or plan a new class i’m levelling or something, it’s no big deal if you don’t update those any time soon.

If there are a few previous-expansion items that people want to use into end-game content for TBC, we could look into adding them to the lists.

Those rings I’m on the fence… if they are better than the listed phase 1 TBC rings, the difference is very small. That’s the kind of case where we usually take the approach: if you own this previous-expansion item, go ahead and use it. Best in Slot will always include your currently-equipped items, and Best in Bags will always consider everything that you own, so it should pick it up if it is actually better.

But… don’t go out of your way to get borderline previous-expansion items either. Thus why we typically don’t index them.

Same issue here, I’m also having the issue for Classic Era at level 60 now that anniversary has moved to TBC pre-patch.

I did finally find your instructions above and got it to work that way.

Would be simpler to have default generic characters naked - Both my brother and I when we used this in the past have used this extensively to find what gear we want to go for at each phase, what we might want to skip etc. For example: “Do I want to get spellstrike hood for pre-raid BiS?” Your simulator surprisingly suggests I should and ranks it as BiS for phase 1 (gonna play and make sure meta gemas are calculating) and suggest t4 chest and shoulders.

Glad TBC is back up !

THANKS!
